Handling vast amounts of sensitive patient data, including medical records, treatment plans, and research data, required stringent security measures to comply with HIPAA and other regulations. The
DataOps practices were not built to handle an increasing volume of data. The risk of unauthorized access to sensitive information and data breaches were high given the lack of user authentication. Protecting data in transit and at rest through advanced encryption methods was crucial to prevent data exposure and ensure data integrity.


CloudifyOps implemented Row-Level Security combined with Dynamic Masking in Redshift to control access to rows by defining user roles based on job functions and to hide sensitive data by defining masking rules for columns containing sensitive information.

  • Integrated customer’s identity source directory with AWS Identity Centre to centralize user authentication and authorization.
  • Configured SSO to federate access to the Amazon Redshift and Amazon Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow and set up custom SAML applications to provide the necessary SAML attributes for authentication.
  • Automated encryption enforcement for AWS Glue and EMR by configuring CloudWatch events to monitor API calls and trigger Lambda in case of a violation and enable encryption using KMS.
  • Automated the monitoring of security configurations across the Redshift cluster including encryption, SSL requirements, audit logging, user activity, and FIPS compliance leveraging AWS config and custom lambda rules.
  • The implementation of comprehensive security measures significantly reduced the risk of data breaches as the number of data breach incidents dropped by 75%.
  • SSO integration provided a seamless, secure user experience, and strengthened authentication mechanisms, leading to a 90% reduction in unauthorized access attempts.
